English Class Volunteer
This role requires a volunteer to help facilitate weekly conversational English classes alongside other tutors.

Case StudyCliff has been teaching English at NNC for over a decade! Some of Cliff's original students are still attending the class, which has become a friendly and supportive group for people from across the globe. The class is relaxed, conversational and practical, covering current social topics as well as all the basics. When there is a big class, the group splits into ability levels if a helper is available.

Individual Social Support Volunteer
ISS is a regular commitment to meet individually with an older person seeking social connection.

Case StudyJune* has lived a rich and full life travelling across the world as a performer. Now 90, she lives in Enmore alone since her partner passed some years ago. When applying for the program, June hoped: "I won't have to go a month or so without seeing a soul."
June was matched with Cam*, who has been visiting every fortnight since 2022. Cam brings coffee and they enjoy biscotti together, playing old records and going through June's many fabulous photos. |
Social Support Groups Volunteer
Social Support Groups involve community language groups getting together from former Yugoslavia (Monday), Greek (Tuesday and Thursday), Portuguese (Thursday), and English speaking backgrounds (Friday).

Case StudyAndre* is a member of the Inner West's large Greek and Cypriot communities. He's been volunteering in the Greek Mens Seniors group for many years at their aged care centre in Marrickville.
The group meet and chat in language over briki (coffee), playing cards, Greek music and films every week. |
Fundraising and Marketing Volunteer

Case StudyNNC runs a major fundraiser, the Car Boot Sleepout event annually, with hundreds of locals participating to raise funds.
The event is advertised through social platforms, and poster drops around Newtown for several months beforehand. Your team supports Fundraiser's goals to ensure their success, and touches base with them over Sleep Out, ensuring they have a meaningful experience. |
