Linda Cowan is passionate about Newtown.
"I love Newtown. I have lived in Newtown for 30 years. I have witnessed its growth from a quiet, mainly working class, blue-collar suburb, into the wonderful vibrant, diverse and tolerant suburb it is today. I moved here originally, thinking I would stay for a couple of years, and now I can't imagine living anywhere else.
I want to be an ambassador to ensure the world knows what a truly inclusive, exciting, diverse, destination Newtown is. By working to ensure Newtown continues to exist and grow as a community that embraces all the things we love about it: its arts, music, entertainment, restaurants, cafes, parks, quirky independent shops, and its acceptance of everyone who wants to live here, no matter who they are.
Communities change and grow and face challenges. The challenge to Newtown is one word, WestConnex. I am a member of the WestCONnex Action Group (WAG) Newtown Branch, and the aim of our group is to SAVE Newtown from this threat, so that all of those things we love can continue to be nurtured, to flourish and to be protected for all of those who live or visit here, now and in the future.
