Homelessness and Housing in Newtown

The Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC) sees an increasing number of people that are insecurely housed or affected by homelessness.

We have a dedicated Boarding House Project that delivers services to people living in Boarding Houses in a number of ways.

We are addressing issues of homelessness and have developed services to try and alleviate the pressures experienced.

Amongst the services developed we have:

  • An accommodation Board that is updated weekly and seeks to identify available affordable accommodation in the surrounding area. We are currently listing all available accommodation that is $250 a week or less.

  • A free telephone and Internet access to help homeless people and those seeking accommodation find appropriate housing.

  • A weekly Housing Assistance and Referral Service (HARS) run in partnership with Inner City Homeless Outreach Support Service (I-CHOSS). This service currently runs on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

  • On the first Monday of each month Housing NSW run an outreach clinic alongside HARS

  • We have also developed a directory of services available to homeless people, for use by service providers. Click here for Housing and Services Directory.

  • The Newtown Neighbourhood Centre is open five days a week with an information and referral service covering many areas including housing and homelessness issues.
