General Safety Information About The Newtown Festival  

  1. Remember to bring sun block, a hat, a watch and any medication you may need. If you have a chronic condition (ie asthma, epilepsy, diabetes) please carry information regarding your condition and an emergency contact number.

  2. Dress for the day and the weather. Wear sensible shoes and clothes and bring wet weather gear in case of rain.

  3. Don’t presume that the laws of the real world don’t apply to Newtown Festival. Anyone caught holding or dealing illegal substances will be treated the same way as anywhere else.

  4. Large crowds, a long day and hot weather in combination will tire you out. Make sure you pace yourself, drink plenty of water, eat food and minimise sun exposure.

  5. Use of mind-altering substances of any kind, including alcohol can result in the day changing from great to awful in a very short period of time. St John's First Aid Officers will be on site on the day, please do not hesitate to let them or festival staff know if something is going wrong, we will help you, not judge you.

  6. Please consider others as well as your own safety. If someone falls down or is in distress please help them if you can or let Security, St John's First Aid Officers or Festival Crew know so we can help.

  7. Crowd surfing and moshing will not be tolerated.

  8. Security will have discretionary powers to restrict people who are intoxicated, aggressive or possibly drug affected.

  9. Security personnel are on site to keep the festival safe. If you need help or see someone needing help, please notify security straight away. Please follow the security officer’s instructions if required, as someone’s safety may depend on it.

  10. The Festival Crew will be wearing bright Festival t-shirts on the day, they are there to help monitor the crowds. If you have a basic question or an urgent issue or problem they will be able to help you or find you suitable assistance

  11. Under extreme and unlikely circumstances, an area or the entire site may be required to be evacuated or cleared. It is imperative for you to follow all instructions and directions from emergency services - police, fire brigade, ambulance and our security personnel.

  12. St Johns First Aid Officers will be on site on the day to treat people who are ill or have injured themselves, all festival crew know the location of this station.

  13. Lost (and found) property will be taken to the Festival Information booth situated near the main entrance to the Park off Australia St. Any uncollected items will be taken back to Newtown Neighbourhood Centre and will be available for collection up to 4 weeks after the Festival, at which point it will be re-issued to a charity. You can enquire about lost items by calling the Centre on 02 9516 4755.

  14. Lost (and found) children will be monitored from the Newtown Police stall situated beside the Festival Information booth near the main entry to the Park off Australia St. Please make your way to the Police stand if you lose (or find) a child.
