Community Linking Project
The Service
Our new name and refreshed vision- Community Linking Project
(formally the Boarding House Program) has been successfully running for 11 years.
This program provides community linkages, social support and access assistance to residents of Licensed Residential Centre's which promote social inclusion and community involvement.
We assist individuals to access recreational, educational, employment services and activities in the local community.
Programs are run on either an individual basis according to identified needs, or in small groups.
It's all about linking individuals so that they can participate and build up more resilience
Programs
Community Linking Project (CLP) has projects funded by the Department of Ageing, Disability and Homecare: the Active Linking Initiative (ALI) and Community Based Activities (CBA).
- The program includes Sportsability which is an active sports program which includes soccer, badminton, indoor lawn bowls and other games to choose from- this is held every Wednesday at the Marrickville PCYC .
- We have our Shopping Bus and Coffee Socials which assist residents to do their personal shopping, banking or just get out for a cup of tea.
- There is an Outings group where we provide residents the chance to choose what they would like to do and facilitate that activity.
- We also have a partnership with the Sydney Street Choir which gives the residents an opportunity to showcase their singing talents!
- There is an In-House Afternoon provided which can mean anything from guitar playing and singing to a game of cards or crafts.
- Roomies Art Group and Kites is a centre based art group meeting at Roomies Artspace Hut 43 Addison Road Centre, 142 Addison Road Marrickville each Wednesday. Predominantly the group meets to do independent art pursuits with the assistance of a facilitator and volunteers. Participants enjoy the experience of building a creative community, information sharing, current affairs, producing art and craft, with occasional outings to community or art events. Highlights for 2011 included book and print making workshops with specialised Tutors at Roomies Artspace located at the Addison Rd Centre Marrickville. Several artists as a result of attending Roomies have been sought after for Solo Arts Shows, Group Exhibitions as well as receiving Grants. Roomies Artspace won Mental Health Matters Award 2010 for Consumer Participation and Involvement.
- Also we run a fortnightly Art Group at Tom Foster Community Centre- this is open to HACC clients to attend and has a fee for classes attached please call 9550 4884 for more information.
