Volunteers like Jan make regular visits – usually just for a couple of hours a fortnight and these visits can make an enormous difference to the lives of others.
Stephen says “What I like about Jan is that she lights me up and gives me inspiration. She gets me out of the house and makes me do things I normally wouldn’t do – like going to a café. I was always apprehensive about things like that – I’m so shy and bashful.
We talk about things I wouldn’t normally talk about and we enjoy hanging out together. We both love using public transport and go all over the place.
And she makes me laugh!”
Jan retired from full time work a few years ago but has always done volunteer work in her community. She describes herself as “a social animal” and says it’s absolutely a two way street. Visiting and getting around with Stephen gets her out of the house as well and as they negotiate and plan the things they will do together each time, they do things they both enjoy.
