My name is Raymond Lalotoa of Samoan heritage, born in New Zealand and came to Australia as a 13 year old with my family. As soon as I could get out of the western suburbs I escaped to the city and I joined a band. First living in Surry Hills then doing the rounds of the inner city and still loving this place like I did from the start. Newtown has a special place in my heart because it is where most young people first set out to get a taste of Sydney. I lived right here on Kings St and then Stanmore Rd over a space of two years. Even though I'm no longer a local resident I still come here to get a feel for culture, art, music, its food, the people and just the general vibe.
Newtown is a one in a million kinda place, yeah it's changed but at the very least it still has its heart in the right place, especially with the way NSW is going right now. Who ever is running shit in Newtown knows what social cohesion means and that person needs to have a sit down with Mr Baird and let him know what is up!
Sydney is a special place and deserves openness and joy, not fear and paranoia. You are what you sell to the world! We're just way too grateful as a society to wreck what we have, it's just a small minority who need some educating and that is not an impossible fix. Most importantly we need a few community leaders to step up and publicly inform people that some kind of monster is not going to harm all of us. That just sounds like a place run by a paranoid person with a paranoid imagination.
Sorry went off track, where was I? Yeah Newtown rocks! It has a strong community core, something that all of Sydney needs to be looking at as a benchmark to enable the rest of us to just get along and enjoy our lives as one people. Oh yeah and the kebabs on King St are second to none!
