Boarding House Outreach Service
The Boarding House Outreach Service (BHOS) supports occupants of General Boarding Houses in Sydney’s Inner West. The service is funded as part of the Government’s Specialist Homelessness Services reform program ‘Going Home Staying Home’.
The service operates across eight inner west Local Government Areas and Newtown Neighbourhood Centre is the lead agency overseeing the service delivery. Our partners are Community Restorative Centre and Women and Girls Emergency Centre.
BHOS provides ongoing case management support to people living in a boarding house who are at risk of homelessness or those who have just become homeless and are looking to move into a boarding house. Case management support is tailored to meet the needs of individual clients and we work from a person-centred, strengths-based approach.
Case workers support boarding house occupants, within the context of an outreach service. The outreach model meets clients where they are. Clients are supported to access mainstream and specialist services. Our aim is to work in partnership with clients and address and resolve the underlying causes of housing insecurity and work towards achieving ongoing housing security.
The service has five f/t case managers and a team leader. It covers parts of the City of Sydney and the Local Government Areas of Marrickville, Ashfield, Burwood, Canterbury, Leichardt, Canada Bay and Strathfield.
