Boarding House Outreach Project

The Boarding House Outreach Project (BHOP) is funded under the NSW Homeless Action Plan (HAP) Program it is part of the Federal and State Government wide reform of the homelessness service system. It's one of a number of SHS (Specialist Housing Services within the newly revised SAAP funding sector - this is a new funding stream for NNC.

It is funded to provide a casework support to occupants of Boarding House in Sydney and Inner West. We have a team of 4 f/t workers (one of these is aimed at people over 55 and is funded under Aging Disability and Home Care (ADHC), which is part of NSW's Family and Community Services.

Working with the occupants of boarding houses across the Inner West - including parts of Sydney, the project aims to assist residents before they reach a crisis situations as well as working with operators to ensure they are aware of all supports available to them (for example assistance with fire and safety works, energy saving opportunities and assistance in supporting tenants).
